Self-help and Life Enhancement Tips for the Business Owner

Each one of us dance studio owners is facing troubling and difficult times both now and ahead of us. The big question is, how do we survive in the moment? All of us have scrambled to do the best that we possibly can in an extreme and traumatic time to find ways to keep our students engaged and to help them to maintain the strength that they have built up since the beginning of the season. None of us could have anticipated that the world would be forced to shut down in order to curb this deadly virus and to help ourselves and others to survive, but here we are and we have a couple of options, either swim or sink!! Perhaps you don’t know how to swim or do some of the other things that are now becoming the norm but one thing I know for sure is that you will fight to maintain everything that you have worked for and to help all the people working with you who are also now struggling.

This has hit us all financially but there are now a number of ways for studio owners to apply for funds to carry you through this scary time. Look at all options and apply for as many of them as possible, talk to the SBA loan providers and your local bank to see what options work best for you

We are not a weak- hearted group and we all have it in us to keep our heads above water and to be a beacon of light to so many people! Never underestimate the power of the heart. When we feel passionate about something few obstacles can defeat us. Our hearts can inspire greatness in others, sweep adversity aside, break new ground and draw others along with us.

We all have within us a spark that ignites our creative spirit – sometimes that spirit can be overshadowed by the big obstacles that cross our paths but that spark that we have will overcome our darkest times and will show us the way to a brighter and stronger future.

Reality often swamps us and paralyses us in every way but now is the time to invest and work on ourselves, something we seldom have time to do, because whatever you do now to increase your knowledge, become better organized and start to plan for the near future will come back to you in leaps and bounds when you reopen your business.

Paul Gauguin, the painter said “I shut my eyes in order to see!”. I love this quote because when do we take the time to do that? I also love this other quote by the poet Rupert Brooks, “What is this world if full of care, we have no time to stop and stare” We have the time now to shut our eyes and also to stop and stare so try shutting your eyes and envisioning a bright future ahead of you, now open your eyes, take a deep breath and remind yourself that those who succeed in any situation usually have one thing in common, they never give up!

We are all learning how to become better people, better teachers, better leaders to head towards the path of excellence.

Your students and their parents will be over the moon when they are able to step inside your studio and take classes again. Your studio is more than a place for arts education, in many cases it is a home away from home and your students form lasting relationships with each other and you and your faculty and staff that they will keep for years after they move on and out into the world. Be prepared to offer them new and exciting moments.
