Just as in street wear, the right accessory can make or break a dance costume. Start with a great style, add some eye-catching accessories and BLING, BOOM, POW… you have created a look that will surely dazzle your audience! Accessories can magically transform the entire look of a costume. Whether your desired look is chic, fun, glamorous, sporty or artistic, accessories can make a big impact on the overall look and feel of a dance routine.

Much of the inspiration for dance accessories comes directly from fashion. As designers, we literally travel the world to be inspired by trends that add flair and pizazz to dance costumes. We've attended fashion trade shows in New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New Orleans. We have traveled over seas to the streets of London and Paris, and scoured the fabric and trim markets in China and Korea to be inspired by trends that easily translate to dance while still being fashion relevant.

Just recently back from inspiring travels abroad, I have much inspiration to share! Here is a list of my top ten favorite accessory trends that are a 'must' to include in your next performance.

1. The Royal Family has always been known for their fancy hats. Our design team was inspired by the details in all of the exquisite fascinator headpieces. These head adornments can transform a basic costume into an elegant, glamorous one.

2. Channel your inner princess with dazzling crystal jewelry and tiaras that light up the stage and draw attention to the face. The jewelry store windows in Paris inspired the "princess" within by showcasing jeweled statement necklaces and earrings.

3. The Eiffel Tower sparkles in the dark of the night and inspired the glitzy rhinestone headbands, seen in fashion magazines and on the streets of Paris. They can be worn across the forehead to create an elegant Great Gatsby look or to pull flowing hair back for a lyrical performance.

4. Feminine footwear shined everywhere. Sequin and glitter shoes of all types, whether its sneakers, character shoes or combat boots, draw attention to the dancer's beautiful footwork and is a great finishing touch to complete every dancer's costume from head to toe.

5. London's hippie chic trend inspires the use of floral headbands. A staple trend in current fashion, it was seen on teens in Los Angeles, at music festivals, and on the runway at shows like Zac Posen. It is a fun flashback to the 1970's Flower Child vibe.

6. Totally for Tatts! Temporary lace tattoos and tattoo jewelry add a touch of whimsy and drama to the face and body. Gold and silver jewelry tattoos are a great way to add shine and bling without adding extra bulk for the stage. These affordable transfers can be removed and used over and over.

7. China's pearls of wisdom inspired the marble sized luminescent pearl bobby pins that are gaining popularity in bridal wear. These beautiful hair embellishments will add a contemporary, feminine touch to any lyrical or ballet style.

8. The Mardi Gras celebration on Bourbon Street inspired our fancy filigree masks. A novelty look straight from New Orleans, will add a touch of mystery, intrigue and carnival to any dance number.

9. Ombre. The ombre trend was captured in London, Paris, China and the United States. Hair falls with ombre are an easy way to highlight this trend in a new, fresh way. From the runways of New York to the stages of Moulin Rouge this chic trend makes it easy to add a touch of color to any style.

10. Fringe. It's everywhere! We have seen it highlighted in fashion across many different fabrics such as leather, lace and sequins. It is used to add extra embellishment on purses, dresses and tops as seen in London, Paris and NYC. Fringe is a great way to enhance the dancers' movements and always looks fabulous swinging on stage.
