Dance Studio Owner Tips on How to Get Your Season Off to a Great Start!

Dance Studio Owners: Let’s Do This!

New season, new energy! I know you can feel the excitement as a new season is about to start. After 37-years owning our dance studio, we know that this is the time of year for the new to begin. There is excitement, nervousness and expectation. Sounds like a show, right? The good news is, you have a fresh start to the year and the slate is wiped clean.

One of the big keys here to getting a good start is that what you put in place today will help you carry out a successful season ahead.

Three Great Tips for Dance Studio Owners!

Every year we focus on three tips that help give us clarity with the direction of the new season.

Dance Studio Owner Tip #1 - What Were You Happy With?

Take a moment to write down what you were happy with. I recommend you connect with your team to get some of their input so you know what they are thinking and feeling. Next, is there a way for you to incorporate more of the good? We have found that we are able to add some great new ideas just by expanding on what went well. Don’t just brush these ideas under the rug. Everything pretty much happens for a reason. Make sure that these good things happen, frequently!

Dance Studio Owner Tip #2 – What Were You Not Happy With?

We all know and should anticipate that some bad will creep into your season. Hopefully for you it was nothing too dramatic. With this tip you should also write down what the issue were. What resolution happened and is there a better way to resolve what went wrong. Again, we do this every year and find ways to streamline how we handle problems. Then, moving forward, if this issue should pop up again you have a ready-made answer in place to use or tweak a bit if needed.

Dance Studio Owner Tip #3 – What Are Your Goals and Action Plan?

I know some folks turn their nose up at this, but I can tell you that every year we set goals for ourselves and our business. We also encourage and expect our team to do the same. You can download a sample form for your team by clicking here. Now have we achieved every single goal we set? No, of course not, but it energized us to get it done. The perfect cure for burn out! I recommend that you set both short- and long-term goals. I also recommend that you set both business and personal goals. Write them down, and share with your team if you will be needing their help. Nothing like having many people working toward what you want. There’s power from everyone pushing forward your agenda!

Each one of these will be different for every dance studio owner. Everyone’s business is unique. Every person is unique. What is important to one may not be so important to the next. And you know what? That’s perfectly alright!

The reality is that the culture you have built and how you deal with the good, the bad and the ugly, makes your business what it is. The question is, are you happy with how that is working? If not, you have the power to fix it. Just make a plan and then proceed. I can tell you this, during all the years of owning our studio we have done a lot of tweaking. We have constantly found better was of doing what we do. That is why it is a great idea to review.

No matter how long you have been in business, keep in mind that everything is changeable. The ultimate goal here is for you to have a business that serves you well. That you are proud of and that you are happy with. If you have that, then your season will be a smash hit!
